As you get bombarded by wedding plans, it's easy to forget that you also have to plan a honeymoon. Not just book a trip, but truly plan an experience that you and your new husband will never forget. However, not every destination is perfect for every couple, so here is a bit of advice on what to consider as you make this big decision.
Determine Your Honeymoon Personality
Are you both already world travelers who want to find a new culture to enjoy together? Do you want the ultimate relaxation of laying on a beach with all inclusive service, or do you seek constant adventure and entertainment? Make a list of the things that are most important to you and your partner and narrow down the places in the world that can meet most of them.
Decide How Much Time Off You Will (and Can) Take
As much as we would all like to travel for a month, our wallets and jobs will not likely not support that. There is not right or wrong amount of time to take for your honeymoon, but certain trips will be more enjoyable if you have more time. Plus, you don’t want to have to rush out from your wedding or right back to work if you can avoid it. So, if you are looking to travel halfway across the world, 5 days probably isn't enough. In the same idea, if you have plenty of time to vacation, consider taking a bigger or further trip while you have the opportunity.
Consider the Time of Year You're Getting Married
Unfortunately, not every destination is perfect to travel to at any time of the year. Keep in mind that there are rainy seasons, hurricane seasons and countries that are experiencing seasons opposite of your own. Also, if you are getting married during peak travel times, keep in mind that your rates will be higher, so if you have flexibility to wait and travel during the off-season, it could help your budget.
Finalize Your Budget
This is not as easy as it seems as even after the up-front costs are set there is more to consider (activities, food and drink, additional travel costs, etc.). Be realistic with your budget, as the last thing you want to start off your newly married life is stress and debt. Luckily, today there are also options to register for your honeymoon and have guests pre-pay for dinners and excursions in lieu of wedding gifts or money.
