What are the differences between Hearts On Fire and other diamonds?

Each Hearts On Fire diamond is perfectly proportioned, perfectly polished and perfectly symmetrical to reveal unrivaled edge-to-edge “white-hot” brilliance and “red-hot” fire. All Hearts On Fire diamonds are hand-cut by master craftsmen using state-of-the-art techniques - with each facet polished and analyzed under 100X magnification - 10 times traditional standards. Setting the standard for superlative physical symmetry, every Hearts On Fire clearly exhibits extraordinary optical symmetry under the ProportionScope®. When viewed through the pavilion, Hearts On Fire presents a circle of perfect hearts. Looking through the crown reveals the perfect Fireburst™. This display visually confirms that all 58 facets have the perfect shape, size and contrast to create maximum sparkle.

Are your diamonds conflict-free? Do you have certificates to show this?

All Hearts On Fire diamonds are conflict-free and in full compliance with international laws and human rights warranties. As a leading diamond manufacturer, Hearts On Fire has joined with the United Nations, all diamond-producing countries, and non-governmental organizations in adopting an international agreement known as the Kimberley Process (KP) to prevent all traffic in conflict diamonds. The Kimberley Process requires Certificates of Origin to be attached to all rough diamonds from conflict-free countries. In order to curb any potential for illicit trade in diamonds in troubled areas, a System of Warranties (SoW) ensures that KP diamonds cannot be tampered with during transit. Hearts On Fire Company is proud to endorse and fully embrace the Kimberley Process (KP) and the System of Warranties (SoW) and the United States Clean Diamond Act. All invoices issued by our company attest to the legitimate sourcing of all our diamonds. All of us at Hearts On Fire Company pledge to continue to uphold the highest level of integrity and support of the legal and humanitarian processes that have been implemented to put an end to any and all trading of conflict diamonds.

What are the differences between brilliant, Ideal and Hearts On Fire?

A brilliant cut is the trade term for a modern round brilliant, which is the standard 58-facet round diamond. An Ideal cut generally refers to diamonds cut with proportions established by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919 when he mathematically derived optimum crown and pavilion angles, and table size, for maximizing brilliance and fire in a round brilliant. Hearts On Fire easily earns the AGS Zero Ideal Cut Grade, which is often referred to as “triple ideal.” It assures that the cut will maximize brilliance and fire. But diamond reports can only tell you so much – because even “triple ideals” don't all look the same. Hearts On Fire are always cut precisely to the “sweetest spot” of diamond beauty – a unique set of proprietary standards that exceed even the strictest AGS guidelines. That’s why they always deliver white-hot brilliance and red-hot fire. And, that’s what you really want to see in a diamond. Every Hearts On Fire also exhibits extra “ideals” under the ProportionScope®. When viewedd through the pavilion Hearts On Fire presents its special gift to you - a circle of perfect Hearts. Looking through the crown reveals its promise - the perfect Fireburst™. These patterns are your visual proof that every single facet has the ideal shape, size and contrast for producing maximum sparkle.

What are the differences between emerald, radiant, princess and Dream cuts?

The emerald cut has been around since antiquity. Traditionally, emerald cuts are rectangular in shape and feature a classic “step cut” faceting. In 1945, Asscher Company modified the emerald cut into a square shape. While emerald cuts are noted for being colorful, they lack the full sparkle of a round. In 1970, Basil Watermeyer created the Barion Cut to bring the classic brilliance associated with the round to the step cut. His innovation was to modify the pavilion (bottom) of the emerald cut to mimic that of the round brilliant. He published his designs, yet did not patent them. In 1977, Henry Grossbard patented a similar style in New York and called it the Radiant. The princess cut is a generic cut developed in the early 1980’s as the rectangle or square that would retain the most possible weight from a standard piece of rough diamond. It has a “chevron-style” pavilion. Princess cuts tend to be less bright and colorful than emerald and radiant cuts. Dream by Hearts On Fire is the latest achievement in the evolution of the square cut. Dream is perfectly proportioned and precisely cut for maximum beauty, brightness, fire and sparkle. Dream was awarded a U.S. Patent for its unique design in November 2002.

What’s the best way to clean my Hearts On Fire diamond?

Keeping your diamond clean is easy. Here’s what I suggest: Mix equal parts of a light detergent – like Mr. Clean – ammonia, and water. Dip your Hearts On Fire in the solution and brush gently with a clean, soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly with cool, clean water. Ta-da. Every now and then, I suggest you have your jewelry professionally cleaned at your local Hearts On Fire jeweler. While you’re there, be sure to have the setting checked for any loose diamonds or other wear-and-tear.

Are Hearts On Fire diamonds certified?

Yes. Besides the Hearts On Fire Certification of Excellence, our diamonds are certified by the American Gem Society (AGS). Hearts On Fire only uses certificates from AGS because the AGS has set the highest standard for cut grading in the diamond industry.

I have found cheaper diamonds. Why?

There are no miracles in the diamond business! All gem diamonds are evaluated the same way all over the globe. Ethical guidelines of evaluation require that each individual diamond be graded as if it were cut as a round to state-of-the-art standards. Cut, color, clarity and carat weight are all rarity factors that affect the price of any diamond. Hearts On Fire is The World's Most Perfectly Cut Diamond®. It is the epitome of the modern round brilliant and was even displayed at the Natural History Museum as such. It is extraordinary because of its superlative precision and consistency. That is why it commands the highest value. There are discounts, of course, for all deviations.

What are some tips for choosing the best diamond?

The key to buying diamonds is to buy what you like the best. The best condition for viewing diamonds is face up and with varying amounts of light. More light will give you more sparkle, but low indirect light will show you how well the diamond transforms even the tiniest amount of light. Cup a diamond, either loose or mounted, in your hands. You'll be amazed. Besides cut, color, clarity and carat weight are rarity factors that affect diamond value. White is more rare than tinted, clean is more rare than included, and big is more rare than small. Consider your budget when selecting gems with more rare grades. In the end, choose the diamond that pleases you the most.

I would like to sell a Hearts On Fire Diamond. Do you buy them back?

Hearts On Fire is shown and sold only through authorized retailers. Reselling is often easiest through the jeweler who sold you the diamond in the first place. You may choose another option. But your best bet is to work with an established jeweler you can trust. A jeweler may offer to consign your diamond and sell it for you, give you in-store credit toward a trade-up or other merchandise, or offer you cash. Your choices will depend on your price flexibility as well as any time constraints you may have. I definitely do not recommend trying to sell directly to the public. Take advantage of a jeweler’s reputation, security system and insurance policies.
